March Quarter 2023 Update
With Christmas now a distant memory and the first quarter of 2023 already behind us, I’m sure most of you are well-entrenched in your plans for 2023.
Our last newsletter was distributed in early December so to bring you up to speed with what happened in the last three weeks of December 2022, here’s a brief update:
Our MHF office looked like a toy store with all the amazing toy donations we received prior to Christmas. The Sons of the Southern Cross conducted their annual toy drive, Harrup Park Country Club made their annual toy donation, St Brendan’s Catholic School generously donated toys and books and Catherine McAuley College presented us with books.

Christmas Update (December 2021)
Giving Day 2021 started with a breakfast in the courtyard of Mackay Base Hospital for our Building Healthy Futures participants and corporate supporters.
Our very ambitious target for our first Giving Day was to raise $100,000 between 8 am and 8 pm. Thanks to our very generous Matched Donors – Anglo American, Dalrymple Bay Coal Terminal, Evolution Mining, Isaac Regional Council, and Mackay Base Hospital Auxiliary. They played a vital role in achieving our $100,000 target by donating $1 for every $1 we raised

Quarterly Update (June 2021)
We're sure many of you would agree, the first half of 2021 has flown by, and while we head into the second half of this year and the start of a new financial year, there doesn't appear to be any reprieve in our workload in the near future. But….for Mackay Hospital Foundation, that makes us very grateful.
The constantly changing direction due to COVID-19 has meant we have had to pivot, adjust and re-think the way we host events and our interaction with the community. Still, we do our absolute best to ensure we deliver on our commitments.

Quarterly Update (September 2021)
What an incredible start to the financial year with two of our three major annual events taking place in the past two months.
The Dinner on the Runway by Ibis Mackay took place on Friday 10th September and was an outstanding success for Mackay Hospital Foundation (MHF), with the final amount raised is $40,600.

Bringing comfort to Mackay BreastScreen patients
Did you know there was an estimated number of 19,974 new cases of breast cancer in Australia in 2020? BreastScreen Queensland is a screening and assessment service for women to detect early signs and symptoms of breast cancer. The Mackay Hospital Foundation has supported the Mackay BreastScreen Centre for multiple years now, donating goods to help patients feel more comfortable.

Proudly funding new equipment for the Mackay Base Hospital
Our vision at the Mackay Hospital Foundation is to enhance the hospital experience and to help improve the health outcomes for people in the Mackay Hospital and Health Service region. The Mackay Hospital Foundation receives grant applications from staff within the Mackay Hospital and Health Service and review eligible applications to decide how to allocate funding. The Physio department at the Mackay Base Hospital were able to receive Sara Stedy Patient Lifts through our grants program.

Creating a better bottle-feeding experience for new mums and bubs
Each year, many new Mackay mums and babies spend time in the Mackay Base Hospital Special Care Nursery. The Special Care Nursery is a division under the Women's Health Unit, which looks after all unwell or preterm babies. Through generous donations from local people and businesses, the Mackay Hospital Foundation has donated Medela bottle warmers to the Special Care Nursery.

Doing good in a pandemic
Our organisation, like so many other small businesses, charities and community groups have been significantly impacted by coronavirus (COVID-19).
Currently we have stood down our entire workforce of over 100 volunteers and cancelled or postponed almost every fundraising activity and event out of concern for public safety. Right now, we have no idea when we might be able to recommence these crucial business operations.
