Proudly funding new equipment for the Mackay Base Hospital
Our vision at the Mackay Hospital Foundation is to enhance the hospital experience, and to help improve the health outcomes for people in the Mackay Hospital and Health Service region. We allocate our donated funds to:
- Medical and health technology
- Support services for patients
- Innovative health services and initiatives
- Training, education and research
The Mackay Hospital Foundation receive grant applications from staff within the Mackay Hospital and Health Service and review eligible applications to decide how to allocate funding. The Physio department at the Mackay Base Hospital were able to receive Sara Stedy Patient Lifts through our grants program. Jared Bruning, Physiotherapist at the Mackay Base Hospital, said that it’s great to be able to talk with the Mackay Hospital Foundation about any opportunities or funding possibilities for equipment around the hospital.

The Sara Stedy Patient Lifts are patient aids and allow the hospital staff to transfer patients from one location to another – for example, from the bed, to a chair. It also helps hospital staff to assess a patient’s mobility status and determine if they are ready to progress or transition to something more complex, like walking.
“The Sara Stedy’s are a very valuable aid to us. If we had them on every ward in the hospital, they would be of great benefit. They are a hot ticket item in the hospital ever since the Foundation funded them for us – everyone is looking for one. We only have a few around, but if we did have one on every ward, it would improve everyone’s workflow. Staff would be able to find one quickly, use it promptly with a patient and then be able to move on to the next task they have to do.
The benefits of the Sara Stedy to Mackay patients is the safety. It enables patients to be transferred securely – whether it be moving from bed to chair, or chair to the toilet and bathroom. It also enables them to participate in their rehab a lot sooner, and gets them home sooner.”
